Sen. Breadbags has retired.

Not from the Senate unfortunately. (Sorry if I got anyones hopes up). Just from the guard.

U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, has retired from the Iowa National Guard.

Ernst’s campaign committee this morning released a statement that she had retired after more than 23 years of service. She officially retired Nov. 30 at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

“It has truly been one of my greatest honors to serve our great state and nation alongside some of our finest men and women in uniform,” Ernst wrote in the statement.

The decision provides Ernst with “a greater opportunity to continue meeting with, hearing from and serving Iowans,” she wrote.

I'll translate that last sentence into English from GOP Bullshit;

“a greater opportunity to continue meeting with, hearing from and serving the Koch Brothers and the rest of the 1% as well as reich wing religious nut jobs."

Military pensions. Those of us who have them would definitely be offended by that.

I'm glad she retired as I doubt that she's been doing all required drill and training - Probably pencil whipping whatever she could get away with.

But if she served as a traditional Guardsman for the last 23 years (without long stretches of active duty time) her pension will be smaller than you may think, and if I remember correctly, she won't be eligible to draw that pension until after her 55th birthday.

Any Guard members on the board please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Now if she submits some bullshit disability claim with the VA then I would be howling about hypocrisy.

Peace

But even people who hold beliefs I find repugnant deserve their pension.

As a retiree my default mode is to defend benefits because so many folks from so many angles seem to feel the compensation packages we earned are fair game...

Our health insurance has been under "cost cutting" scrutiny for years. It went from free for life if you do a full 20+ years, to subsidized insurance, and now Janie's party would like to put us on the federal marketplace under the ACA they hate so much.

We make up a significant portion of the 47% of the "takers" they love to talk about.

Also, the whole concept of pensions is under attack in all areas of the US economy.

I do want to find out if she's filing for VA disability though.
