Early voting begins for the special March 4 Iowa City City Council election. What to know:
Early voting has started for the special March 4 city council election in Iowa City.
The 63-day sprint campaign to fill a vacant seat left by Andrew Dunn's resignation is coming to a head over the next three weeks, with Oliver Weilein and Ross Nusser squaring off.
The council opted to hold a special election rather than appoint Dunn's replacement, setting up a brief campaign season for Weilein and Nusser. A trio of contenders initially declared their candidacy, requiring a Feb. 4 primary election won handily by Weilein. Nusser also advanced to the March election following his second-place finish.
At candidate forums, Nusser and Weilein have challenged one another on several issues they believe are important to residents. Iowa City voters will choose the next representative of District C, which covers the northside, downtown, and the University of Iowa campus.
