Tell Your Iowa School Superintendent: Apply for Federal Electric School Bus Funding

In October 2023, EPA opened applications for its 2023 Clean School Bus Rebate Program. These rebates will help school districts across the country replace older diesel school buses with zero-emissions electric buses. This EPA program is a historic opportunity to invest in cleaner, healthier transportation for our children, and we can’t let this moment pass us by.

Iowa City schools outsourced busing years ago to save short term dollars.

My district in Ohio did the same.

Curious as to how many districts still own their own buses rather than using title money to pay a vendor.

It always works the same way. First contract saves district money for three-ish years. They sell all their buses. Then when the second contract comes up the company jacks up the prices knowing the district does not have the capital to replace its bus fleet.

And, voila you privatized transportation and raised costs so less money can be spent on teachers, books, etc that actually help kids learn.
