Related: About this forum4th of July Parade in our tiny, red Iowa town
part of a bright red county.
We drive the County Democratic Party float in most county parades during the summer. Well, DH does and I watch for people who leap in front of the truck, which happens more often than seems normal, but I digress.
A. Saw a LOT more not-white faces in the crowd.
B. Three separate instances of cheers.
C. No Boos, which is unusual; also no Trump or any Republican hats/shirts, etc. which is VERY unusual.
Doesn't mean we're turning blue, but it was good.
Today's parade was in the town we live in.

(17,063 posts)Oops, meant to put that in the main message!
Last time we drove (DH had bypass surgery last summer,, so it was the year before) we got boos and there was tons of Trump gear in the audience.

(50,743 posts)Also a lot of people of color which was unheard of 15 years ago.
No political people in the parade.
Also, the two Trump flags I saw there a few months ago were GONE (although I did see a huge Trump 2020 sign in someone's garage)

(17,063 posts)IF we work for it.
And we have to, because losing the White House would be a disaster for every living thing in this country.

(38,238 posts)I have a rabid rw cousin who I unfriended after his defense & worship of Kyle Rittenhouse. Lots of his friends/acquaintances liked his posts back in 2020, 8-12 wasn't unusual, but when I looked recently it's down to 0-2 at most. He's total cult45.
A spoof float would be fun, with someone dressed up as Trump with stacks of bankers boxes beside him, one open with him tossing out documents as the float drives down Main Street. The docs could be flyers/coupons for local businesses. LOL

(37,864 posts)On the float it would be fun to have a toilet and the TFG lookalike stuffing documents down it and pretending to flush.

(10,115 posts)This morning the Republicans, with Mike Pence, were right. . . there. My 17 year old trans granddaughter grabbed a rainbow 🌈 flag and waived it at them/him. Im very proud! 😄

(50,743 posts)You should be proud.
Vaguely related story... About 5 years ago, I was walking with some friends in the local pride parade and the best sign I saw wasn't actually in the parade. It was being held by someone watching the parade. It read, "Mike Pence Blocked Me on Grinder"

(4,635 posts)She jumped off a float and a vehicle then hit her - it caused a brief halt and a route detour of those in the parade following along behind.

(834 posts)Our 4th parade is always pretty dull. Mostly businesses advertising their stuff (tree trimming trucks), city vehicles (street sweepers, etc.), etc. No marching bands, floats, dance troups, Shriners or clowns
The Democratic Party walked by with their candidates for November's municipal election. Lots of cheering and clapping. Same with the MOMs Demand group. The Republican Party walked with their MAGA shirts. Nobody clapped or cheered. Most (like my group) turned their backs to them.

They dont seem to be eager to embrace the other Repub candidates.
