Miller-Meeks will run for reelection in new 1st Congressional District




DAVENPORT — U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks will run in Iowa's 1st Congressional District, avoiding what likely would have become a competitive and expensive race against fellow incumbent, Democratic U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne.

Miller-Meeks, a Republican, had to make a choice whether to run for Congress in the newly redrawn 1st District or in the 3rd District, which was redrawn to include her home in Ottumwa. Ottumwa is in Wapello County.

She announced her decision at a news conference at Dahl Old Car Home in Davenport on Wednesday morning.

"The newly drawn 1st Congressional District encompasses the bulk of the 2nd Congressional District that I currently represent and it includes more than 80% of the constituents that I currently serve," Miller-Meeks said.
