Teacher accused of touching boys in school bathroom, watching them urinate
An Indiana high school teacher was fired and arrested this week after multiple students accused him of inappropriately touching them in a school bathroom and repeatedly making sexual comments in class, court documents show. Andrew Cowells, 47, also tried to watch at least two boys urinate, encouraged another to touch himself and told a class that he wanted a 15-year-old student to grind on him ... The now-fired social studies teacher was arrested on more than a dozen felonies Wednesday following a nearly two-month investigation.
Cops interviewed several students ages 15 and 16 and obtained a warrant for the suspects phone as part of the probe. The search turned up numerous images depicting nude children, teenage boys in various stages of undress and an adult male sexually assaulting a minor, according to the affidavit. The superintendent of Concord Community Schools said none of the children in the photos were students in the district, The Goshen News reported.
In the boys bathroom, the accused pervert grabbed a students butt and legs, looked over his shoulder to watch the victim urinate and tried to get another teen to touch that boys private parts, authorities said. Cowells faces 13 felony charges, including child solicitation, vicarious sexual gratification involving teenagers and possession of child pornography. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of voyeurism, battery and harassment via electronic networks.
Police also obtained warrants for the cellphones of three other teachers who have also been placed on leave, but they have not released any details about additional arrests in the case.
