Senate committee puts lemonade stand bill in the limelight again

INDIANAPOLIS—The Senate Commerce and Technology Committee convened Thursday morning for a second reading on “the lemonade stand bill,” with some senators touching on a few sour notes.

The “lemonade stand bill” was authored by Rep. Jim Pressel, R-LaPorte, after young constituents reached out to him concerned their lemonade stand would be shut down if they did not obtain a permit from the local health department.

The bill passed unanimously through the House but may die in the Senate.

Senators on the Commerce and Technology Committee put the squeeze on the idea of the bill because of language denying local governments control on the issue and the possibility of lost opportunities for civics engagement.
