Presumptive Democratic nominee for Indiana governor says it's unsafe to reopen economy now

Dr. Woody Myers, the presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, thinks Gov. Eric Holcomb is making a big mistake in how he's reopening the economy.

"Cases in Indiana are on their way up, not down," Myers said. "The curve for newly discovered cases has not reached the 'top' and is nowhere near flat."

Myers was the state health commissioner under both Republican Robert Orr and Democrat Evan Bayh. In the late 1980s, he became the face of Indiana's response to the AIDS pandemic, standing up for the rights of teenage victim Ryan White.

Holcomb, a Republican who will seek a second term in the Nov. 3 election, announced Friday the state will begin opening in stages through July 4.
