Unofficial vote shows Shelbyville new school referendum passed during Primary Election

SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The people of Shelbyville voted “yes” in favor of the introduction of a new elementary school for CUSD #4 during Tuesday’s Primary Election, unofficial results show.

In a Facebook post, the district thanked the community for voting yes on the bond proposition for the new school. The unofficial results show that 1,346 people voted yes (63.1%), while 787 people voted no (36.9%).

“Voter turnout for this referendum question was tremendous and is a testament to the value of education by our community,” the district said. “This vote is a clear statement that education matters, that our students deserve the best opportunities to learn and grow, and that our educators and staff are supported and valued.”

The district said they know this decision was made thoughtfully and that they thank every voter that participated in the process, which included tours and informational meetings. They recognized those who contacted them via emails, phone calls and in-person.
