Freeport Mayoral candidates fight for votes ahead of April election

REEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Two candidates are still jockeying for position to be Freeport’s Mayor for the next 4 years as the April 1st consolidated election is on the horizon.

Incumbent Jodi Miller (Citizens’ Party) served the previous two terms and is seeking a third. Miller said she has positively contributed to the city over the past eight years.

“We worked a lot on coming up with capital improvement plans and looking at our water infrastructure, our road infrastructure and trying to put them together,” Miller said. “The second term has been all about implementing those plans.”

Her challenger is Democrat Joshua Atkinson. Atkinson said he chose to run because he wants new leadership in Freeport.
