4th of July events canceled following shooting

Communities cancel 4th of July events following shooting at Highland Park parade

As law enforcement reportedly continue to pursue an active shooter in Highland Park, surrounding communities are canceling their 4th of July festivities primarily out of “an abundance of caution,” as written in several of the notifications.

The most immediate response was from Highland Park officials who announced the rest of the day’s events, including Fourth Fest, were canceled.

Arlington Heights has canceled the remaining activities for Frontier Days and evening concert

The Village of Deerfield has canceled its Family Days activities at Jewett Park which includes its parade.

The City of Evanston has canceled its parade and all related 4th of July events. It has also closed beaches “due to an abundance of caution.”

The Village of Glencoe has canceled its parade.

The Village of Glenview has canceled its parade and fireworks.

The Village of Itasca has canceled its July 4th fireworks, however they do state they will be rescheduled.

The City of Lake Forest has cancelled the annual Lake Forest Fourth of July Festival and Fireworks at Deerpath Community Park out of an abundance of caution. The Forest Park Beach is also closed.

The Village of Morton Grove has canceled its Morton Grove Days 2022 parade.

Mount Prospect Police announced it has cancelled its parade.

The Village of Northbrook has canceled its activities including parade and fireworks show.

The City of Rolling Meadows has canceled its July 4th fireworks. Leaders are discussing whether it will be rescheduled or not.

Skokie Police announced it has canceled its fireworks display at Niles West.

Vernon Hills has canceled its fireworks display.

The Wilmette Park District have closed their facilities due to the situation in the area. “Gillson Beach and Centennial Aquatic Center are currently being evacuated due to Police Directive. There are no incidents or immediate threats Wilmette at this time,” according to their Tweet.

I can't help but view this shooting as an attack on America, our freedoms and way of life. My heart aches for the victims.

their chairs set up ready for the parade and it was too early for people to be there. They have to cancel everything because

he's still out there.
