Related: About this forumWhy I am voting for Marie Newman in the June 28 Democratic primary.
First, Marie Newman is incredibly accessible to her constituents. Unlike her two predecessors, she opposes the Madigan Machine, and its politics of accommodation and corporate coziness. Unlike her two opponents in the Democratic primary, Marie Newman refuses to take corporate donations.
Second, Marie Newman supports real solutions to our real problems. The US healthcare system is ranked 37th in the world. An appalling statistic. And even with the reforms of the Affordable Care Act, much more is needed. That is why Newman supports an expansion of Medicare, allowing younger people to be eligible for Medicare, and addressing the flaws in Medicare.
Third, because Marie Newman refuses corporate bribes, she supports the broad framework for a green new deal. And that framework rests on a foundation of recognizing that we must move quickly to renewable energy.
Next, in her first 18 months in office, Newman has been incredibly productive. She is one of the most active members of Congress. And speaking with a hyper local focus, she has addressed local flooding issues all over the District, from La Grange, to Oak Lawn, to the Beverly area.
Newman has addressed longtime issues with rail crossing blockages that affect the busy 95th street corridor. She brought together representatives from local government entities with representatives from the rail industries to eliminate much of the chronic congestion due to long freight trains blocking the street.
Newman also held meetings with the Postmaster of Chicago, and addressed chronic issues with poor mail service. While those issues are not fully resolved, and cannot be without national action, staffing levels are being improved in the area.
For the listed reasons, and more, I strongly urge voters to choose Marie Newman in the June 28 Democratic primary for the Illinois 6th Congressional District.

OP
My view is that the Madigan machine targeted Newman because she beat Lipinski. eom

(5,627 posts)1. Unfortunately
her opponent, Sean Chastain's daughter, passed away last weekend. She was 17. Hard to know if he'll resume his campaign.

I don't know who I'd be voting for in the primary (assuming he doesn't pull out, after the tragic news), but I won't have to decide, because I'm not in district 6 anymore.
My county, which used to be divided between districts 6 and 14, got carved up in the redistricting and is now split among 4 other different districts! I can't remember all of the numbers at the moment, but I'm in district 9 now. It's been very disorienting, to say the least!

Such a horrible thing.
