First it was New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Now its Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot taking a shot at Gov. Ron DeSantis and the states new Parental Rights in Education law the one critics call Dont Say Gay.
Lightfoots administration is promoting the Windy City as a diverse and LGBTQ-friendly town through a newspaper campaign ad, "In Chicago We Believe," POLITICO Illinois reported Thursday. The ads were to run in The Orlando Sentinel, The Dallas Morning News and Phoenix Business Journal to target anti-LGBTQ legislation in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
The ad features a young woman staring at a headline: Across the country, legislative actions are underway to regulate what students can or cannot read, what they can or cannot learn, and who they can or cannot be. Surrounding her are critical headlines of anti-LGBTQ laws in Florida and Texas.
Michael Fassnacht, Chicagos chief marketing officer, told POLITICO Illinois that the ads are designed to attract businesses and talent to the city.
