Related: About this forumhey chicago. who ya pickin for mayor?
i should have a new alderman, hopefully in the primary. joe moore is pretty widely hated up here in 49, but has lucked out w shitty opponents. this time he has a hard charging young lady who has been at the doors for a long time now.
whassup in your hood?
as for the throne?
daley, hell no.
preckwinkle, i can live w her. hands are not that clean, but she has done very good work at the county, imho. i suspect she will win.
chico, better than daley. good commercials. think he has a prayer.
mccarthy? dont make me laugh.
ameya, i like her, but i think she has baggage. not good in a tight runoff.
mendoza, a disappointment to me right now. used to love her. but she is pretty tightly tied to solis, and who knows what he did to wear that wire.
i am thinking lightfoot, because police brutality is a huge issue for me.
thoughts?

(18,402 posts)I went into this thinking I would vote for Preckwinkle. Chicagos a big place with a lot of moving parts, and I thought she could bring large government experience together with attention to our chronically underserved communities. I still think she could. Shes smart and she knows the ropes and the hoods.
In fact, my husband and I ran into her last fall and encouraged her to run.
But then came that Burke stuff. And Im a bit conflicted. On the one hand, I understand that if a woman, and especially a black woman, wanted to gain any power in this city she had to play ball with the big boys to some extent. Im not naive. On the other hand, it bothers me a bit.
One thing that doesnt bother me about her is that stupid soda tax thing. I was all for it.
So I dont know yet. Im leaning between her and Vallas, though Im not really all that keen on him.
I cant really see voting for any of the others, for various reasons.

(2,343 posts)but i listen to wcpt all the time. There are campaign commercials for Willie Wilson seems like every commercial break. I love the way he talks. Not what he talks about, but the actual sound of his voice and words. I laugh every time i hear one of these spots. Is he a serious contender?
i dont think he will be the bottom, but he wont be on top, either.

i feel bad about toni, because i think she has done some great stuff at county. but backing berrios was insane.
