I am so tired of these deceptive, anti-choice places that lie to women about their options, lie about abortion and discourage women from exercising their full range of rights and choices.
I watch the TV news out of Rockford IL. Last night, for the second time, this station ran a segment on the Pregnancy Center of Rockford and their so-called Stork Bus. This mobile unit goes around the area and offers free testing to women for pregnancy, STDs and other women health services, not including abortion.
If this TV station is going to run news segments about this group, they should also run a segment about Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood offers the same services for little or no cost. They also offer services to men. Contrary to the propaganda, they work with women to provide adoptions to those who want that choice. Of course they offer abortions! Abortion is a perfectly valid and legal choice.
I called the TV station today and made my feelings known. I was not rude, but I let them know that I expected to see a news story about Planned Parenthood and some more truth about pregnancy crisis centers. I will be contacting a local women's group to see if anyone else is interested in publicizing this or asking the TV station to show less bias.
The TV station is WREX TV in Rockford IL. Their phone number is 815-335-2213.

(93 posts)My mom lives out past Freeport and she's been itching for a fight.
She's handicapped with very limited mobility. When she sees the protests on TV it excites her yet gives her a sad. Starts telling her stories from the 60's of protesting the Viet Nam war and being at the protest '68 Democratic Convention (you remember? I had you with me. *mom, I was 3 I don't remember* You remember, I was running carrying you in my arms, cop almost hit you in the head with a billyclub, got me in the shoulder *mom, I was 3 I don't remember* mmm well, we were out there because........)
When ever I go to marches she always tells me, I wish I could be there with you. I tell her she's the best damn telephone commando ever! This will give her another # to give a piece of her mind to. Thanks.

(31,443 posts)I am trying to contact anyone I think might be sympathetic to this. The station needs lots of phone calls.
I am 70, so I remember the protests. I took part in many of them. I still get out and do everything I can, whether it is protesting or canvassing, registering voters, etc. It is a team effort here. I could not do as much if my husband was not right beside me.
Being a telephone commando is very important. If WREX gets enough phone calls, they might just do something or say something.
I did make a difference on one of their stories in the past. They were featuring a story about Curves, an exercise franchise that was owned by right wing anti-choice people. I pointed out to them who the owners were. I suggested that they run stories about other exercise facilities in the area that offered other programs to a variety of people. I suggested one place nearby that is an independent gym, owned by a married couple who are Air Force veterans. They did show some stories about other exercise facilities.
