Obama to address Emanuel's climate meeting Tuesday
Former President Barack Obama will speak at Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s climate meeting on Tuesday.
Obama’s afternoon speech will unfold as Republican President Donald Trump has said he will pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord in which nations agreed to lower carbon emissions. Trump also has reversed Obama-era domestic climate initiatives, saying he wants to bring back the coal industry.
Emanuel released a statement welcoming Obama, who will appear in person to address the gathering.
“President Obama helped lead the fight against climate change with bold and decisive action, and we are honored he will be joining the North American Climate Summit where local leaders from around the world will make meaningful commitments to climate solutions,” Emanuel said.
