How Not To Get Shot By Chicago Police: Department Releases 'Stay Safe Tips'

On Friday night, the department sent out the following tweets, which urged Chicagoans to "be smart" about who they hang out with, avoid cursing and keep your hands visible at all times:

1. Sarcasm Here - But If You Fail To Do Any Of The Things On This List......

you will be roughed up and shot. This list almost insinuates that everything that is not on this list that you might do - gives the CPD free reign to feel justified in applying excessive force.

Really - there are good tips on this listing by the CPD. In one respect I commend the CPD for putting something like this out It is helpful and people should be reminded of these things - but don't you think that there should be another list directed at the police and how they should conduct themselves.

This list should be entitled:

We serve and protect and this is how we (the CPD) will conduct ourselves in order to keep you safe in any neighborhood.

Am I being too critical here?

2. I first saw this on a TV program this morning...

and someone (black lady) suggested that there should be a list, how NOT to shot someone, just for the police.
Such as an unarmed black guy/woman getting shot for walking down the street while black etc. (racially profiled). The two white guys suggested that most of the list was valid and the oriental lady suggested that these situations are different in certain neighborhoods, no matter how you try to follow their instructions. (sorry, I don't know these people's names)

Any behavior that hints that they are not in charge will be dealt with swiftly and brutally.
It is like the police are becoming Congress with Guns and an Attitude. We pay them, but the minute they get elected or hired, they no longer serve the people who put them there. Just the people with money. And their egos. Not all of them, but enough of them to really fuck up the lives of a lot of other people. With impunity.

I am at a loss as to how this can be fixed. Education - sounds good, but I can still remember going to a required sexual harassment class - what constituted sexual harassment - when working for a giant soulless corporation. One of my classmates, a supervisor who was a poster boy for sexual innuendo, said good! Maybe I can pick up some pointers! He treated the class as a joke.

5. The Chicago Police is in charge of all of Chicago as I understand it.

It would seem they are trying to train the citizens instead of their monkey asses being retrained. Besides, it appears they will still shot no matter if you do what is expected of you. wtf!

they must be crazy. so, then, any time you fail to follow the suggestions of the list they can beat your ass, or shoot you, or whatever the power aid flavor of the day is.

yeah, how bout you explain to your cops that none of those things are crimes, let alone capital crimes. teach them not to over react.
