(7,504 posts)My uncle moved to southern Illinois years ago and, even though he was married to a woman from the area, the natives always kept him at arm's length even say he walked too fast -racing around like he owned the place, etc.

(7,962 posts)I lived there for a decade and all but one or two friends I made were from other places. Other people I knew had the same experience. The Illinois natives always seemed to be afraid you were going to rip them off and bwere suspicious of outsiders. I lived downstate but wondered if it was a Chicago influence or something.
As far as Cali ex-pats that is happening in many places, including here in AZ.They are really driving up housing costs.

(51,460 posts)It's not a question of being "accepted by the locals." These assholes come in and run up the property values to the point where "the locals" can no longer afford to live here. Then they just take over.

(10,002 posts)of Colorado for the sanctuary of Idaho, trying to get away from that very thing. The last 15 - 20 years has shown there really is no escape.
People cash out from an expensive state, move here and buy 3 or 4 times the house they had for the same thing. We're catching up to the same thing we/they fled.
