Former MMA star, Hilo native BJ Penn announces run for governor of Hawaii

HONOLULU -- Former mixed martial arts (MMA) star BJ Penn is running for governor of Hawaii.

Penn, a native of Hilo, announced his run for Hawaii governor Monday on Instagram. He says he plans to remove all new federal and state COVID-19 mandates that have "been hurting our economy, residents, and ohana."

His post also says he plans to find the “best doctors and medicines and medical care to help fight off the pandemic.”

Penn has had several run-ins with the law. Big Island police arrested him back in January 2021 for allegedly driving under the influence. Penn was ALSO arrested for a DUI in February 2020 after he lost control and flipped his truck near the Princ Kuhio Plaza in Hilo.

social and political issues. That being said, from my personal experience I find most athletes to lean conservative. That's why I never get very heavily invested in specific athletes or their careers.

Except like athletes like Braden Holtby who has always been a Democrat. He's the Dallas Stars backup goalie this year. He won in 2018 with Capitals. He refused to go to the White House because he hates Trump

and you've illustrated the point. BJ Penn doesn't even recognize how his authority will be limited.

How’s comedian Augie Tulba loving life now as a legislator?

The job just seems to chew people up and spit em out. Caldwell assumed he’d slide home into the Gov’s office after being Mayor of HNL and there is no way on God’sgreen earth he could be elected to anything but neighborhood board. Abercrombie, David Ige, Linda Lingle, even Ben.

If we get behind the Represent.us folks and get that passed in a majority of states, and peel the lobbyists off our half- dead institutions, maybe we can come back to life. I think there’s hope.

What was the question? 😉 oh right, BJ Penn. he’s a Republican right? So, going lose.
