Capital improvement projects proposed for Big Island
HILO The state House of Representatives has passed its list of proposed capital improvement projects for the next two fiscal years, including nearly $250 million for various Hawaii County projects.
The majority of the countys improvement projects are school-related, with 22 schools receiving funding for various improvements and repairs in the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years.
Two of the most substantial school projects are a $22.7 million project to build a new building that includes four classrooms and a library at Haaheo Elementary School and a $12 million project at Volcano School of Arts and Sciences.
According to the proposal, the goal for the $12 million will be to unite Volcano School of Arts and Sciences students on a single campus. Currently, the charter school has two campuses, one on Old Volcano Road and one on Haunani Road, both in Volcano.
