Ocasio-Cortez Brings Her Star Power To Hawaii To Boost Kaniela Ing

Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez brought a bit of her Bronx flair — and some political star power — to Honolulu as part of a rally Thursday for state Rep. Kaniela Ing, who’s running in a crowded primary field for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.

A few hundred people filled the auditorium of the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind near Diamond Head for the event.

The larger-than-expected crowd spilled onto the playground, where Ocasio-Cortez surprised those gathered outside with a preview of the speech she gave inside.

“No matter what happens we are fighting for what’s right and this fight is eternal,” Ocasio-Cortez boomed as Ing stood next to her, reveling in the raucous applause.

who could benefit from her "star power." Not all of them are shoo-ins.

I wonder the same thing: Who does pay for this?

I'm not sure what to make of this given Ing's FEC violations and after the results of this week's primaries. I'm also troubled by what seems to be a the "blame the Democrats" message.

“It’s easy to blame Republicans, to blame Trump for our problems, but we have to look in the mirror,” the House candidate says in the ad, as the camera tilts up to capture a crane building a skyscraper in Honolulu. “Who controls our state? Who’s controlling our party?”

Ing, 29, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America who has represented a part of Maui in the state’s House of Representatives since 2012, is running on a growing list of ambitious priorities gaining traction on the left wing of the party. This includes the abolition of ICE, a job guarantee, tuition-free public college, Medicare for all and a green New Deal.

geez!!!!!! "What's right" yeah, how democratic-socialists position themselves within the big tent of the Democratic Party is what is troubling to me. A minor faction, with minor leaders and 'rising stars'. I am a card-carrying member of the Democratic Party and don't need any other card to describe my loyalties to ONLY the Democratic Party. Socialism helps some, in some cases, but it must be understood to be what it is, a minor ideology on the left-leaning scale of the BIG TENT Democratic Party. Which has been fighting their so-called new battles since I became a Democrat with my first election many, many years ago. Never saw a reason for any other brand, especially a socialist brand. Young people must help the Party in Toto, not just minor factions within our Party. That is what I counsel young people to do and Tuesday here proved this advice from many Party loyalists is being heard and understood by many in our Party.
