Carter picks up support from Ga. teachers' group

By CHRISTINA A. CASSIDY
Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) - One of the largest teachers' groups in Georgia has announced its support for Democrat Jason Carter, as he challenges Republican Gov. Nathan Deal in the fall.

The Georgia Association of Educators endorsed Carter on Wednesday, citing a "chronic underfunding and dismantling of Georgia's public education."

The group has historically backed Democrats, although it declined to endorse anyone in the 2002 governor's race. That lack of support was considered a factor in then-Democratic Gov. Roy Barnes losing his bid for re-election.

Deal's spokesman Brian Robinson says the endorsement is not a surprise given the group's history of supporting Democrats. He said teachers don't vote as a group and many are supporting Deal.

It's no surprise that Georgia educators are backing Carter, but not because they traditionally support Democrats as claimed by Deal. His budget cuts REALLY pissed off all state employees who have gone with little or no raises and took a bad hit on health insurance last year.

that is right only 30% of Georgia's teachers are registered to vote, its clear that we need better civic education in this state, we need high school classes on civic education, and they need to be mandatory. Registering to vote should be mandatory for all citizens, you don't have to show up for the elections, just register.

if you know a teacher make sure they are registered, if you need get registration forms from GA Victory 2014. they have Offices all around Metro Atlanta.

the Carter Campaign needs all the help it can get to #GOTV and Get the Teachers Out to Vote
