Strange restriction on Advanced In Person voting for the Georgia Senate runoff

https://www.ajc.com/politics/georgia-holidays-prevent-saturday-voting-before-us-senate-runoff/Q7WG5X7T55AIJEJYLEOJ6JLQ6M/

Can't have Saturday advanced voting within two days of a holiday - in this case what used to be called Robert E Lee's birthday, now just called a state holiday.

YeeHaw - the South will rise again! (just kidding, sarcasm, shaking my head in disgust)

This might explain why the GA legislature shortened the senate runoff election date. nt in2herbs Nov 2022 #1

Jan. 19, 1807. I remember when a lot of Dixie states were forced to observe the Federal holiday of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, they referred to the holiday as Lee’s birthday instead.

I’ve been living in Georgia a long time but didn’t know Black Friday was supposedly REL’s “birthday” now!

It’s nice for people to get a day off (those who don’t already get the Saturday after Thanksgiving off!), but I’d rather April 9 be a holiday — the date of Lee’s surrender at the Appomattox courthouse.
