Savannah mayoral candidate's arrest follows previous convictions, court admonishments

Anthony Oliver, who has declared his intent to run in the November election to be Savannah’s next mayor, was arrested Tuesday by Pooler police on aggravated stalking charges.

The arrest comes after a protective order against Oliver was issued in Effingham County Superior Court in September that prohibited him from contacting the petitioner or approaching her within 500 yards.

It was not clear whether the order was related to Oliver’s arrest Tuesday. A request made Wednesday to Pooler police for Oliver’s arrest report is still pending.

The protective order found the petitioner had come to Georgia to get away from Oliver after he had followed her to Minnesota, where there was also domestic violence committed, according to the court document.
