KKK posts banner on historic Georgia building

DAHLONEGA -- A Georgia town is reeling after a KKK banner was hung from historic building.

The people in City of Dahlonega in North Georgia woke Thursday to find a banner reading “Historic Ku Klux Klan Meeting Hall” on one of the oldest buildings in town. Citizens say flags were displayed at both ends of the banner as well.

The building, which is currently vacant, quickly became ground-zero for protesters in the City Square and because of the vacancy, city officials were forced to move quickly to remove the banner themselves. Until they were able to do so, law enforcement officials say they were inundated with calls about the banner.

Despite free speech claims, the city was able to remove the banner thanks in part to a sign ordinance violation that allows officials to take swift action.
