Georgians may foot bill for 25% pay raise for next Governor

It seems $139,339 and a 24,000-square-foot mega mansion is not enough to keep someone in the state’s top executive seat happy.

House Bill 202, sponsored by state representative Jay Powell, seeks to grant the office a 25% pay increase, bringing the salary to $175,000 per year, plus a driver, private security, and travel.

Governor Deal is not eligible to benefit from the pay increase, should it pass, because the raise would not go into effect until January 1, 2019. The Georgia Constitution prohibits Deal, or any governor, from seeking a third term.
