ATLANTA (WXIA) -- Motorists with a Georgia driver's license that is set to renew on July 1 or later are looking at major changes to the way they update their licenses.

In order to renew or reinstate a driver's license, motorists will have to go to the license office in person and provide proof of who they are along with where they live.

When they show up, motorists will have to provide an original copy of a birth certificate or current passport, along with a Social Security card or document like a W-2 or income tax return that shows a Social Security number -- and two documents that verify a motorist's permanant address.

3. They installed the birth certificate thing in Missouri a few years back

the beauty of this was in order to get a certified copy of your birth certificate, you had to show your driver's license. I recently went to renew mine at the DMV office and they didn't even look at the passport I brought along for I.D. just the old driver's license and of course the check to pay for it all.

Well I wonder how would it work if my husband was a German when he was born and was adopted and brought here at the age of 4 or 5. His birth certificate is in German. He is an american citizen. So how will that work, I wonder?

6. hubby has to renew his next year.

All the utilities and house is in my name. He only has one credit card bill that is mailed to the home address. So he will have to put one of the utilities in his name to satisfy the last requirement. They say this is all about keeping us safe, I say it is more about voter suppression.

If you have declared State X as your residence, you and your family carry their drivers license and license plates for your car, regardless of where you live. Look for a lot of Texas plates near USAF bases and Florida plates near NAVAIR facilities.

17. Well I know my husband is retired from the military. But I am wondering if a soldier is needing

to update his license I guess what you are saying is really there is no change. My nephew is from GA and he is a civilian working for the military and will be taking a new job in another state. He has decided to go for a year to see if he will like it and if he does he will move his family to his new state. I can't see why he wouldn't like it. There are so much opportunities in the MD, VA and DC areas for the kind of work he will be doing.

18. Thank god we don't live in GA. However, I have a sister living there. But this is one thing

that bothers me is the passport. Many people don't travel. If you have your birth certificate that should be enough to get whatever else they want. Why birth certificate?

FWIW, there's an office in NYC where I went in, gave them my name and birthdate and 15 bucks, and they printed out a generic birth certificate. (I didn't try giving them someone else's name)

The intent is to cleanse the electoral rolls of poor people who might not have this kind of documentation. Similar to Jim Crow laws and should be just as illegal.

over some paperwork requirements, they will raise hell regardless of their party.

13. If you are a married woman, you need

to bring your marriage license if your birth certificate name doesn't match the name on the other documents.

It also helps to call and make an appointment. You don't have to wait as long, but you may have to drive to an office further away.

19. I renewed for ten years and still have five to go...

I'm glad my youngest got his learner's permit before the new law just because of the lines they have shown on tv. When we got his, the process was quick and simple. I did have to bring SS, birth certificate and proof of attendance but I thought it was because of first issuance.

I do have a birth certificate but if the rumors are true, I'll have to show more than that. Talk about retro...I had longer hair when the picture was taken and ONE piece of my bangs decided to drop into the middle of my forehead so it looks like I have a stripe. I always hated that picture! But I do look younger in it - lol.

Very glad I renewed mine in March, because I completely lost my birth certificate.
