(17,235 posts)Perfect example for having a personal protection device. There's a ton of scum in this world threatening innocent people.

(4,876 posts)The waitress saved everyone by giving the crooks the $200. She never confronted them with her "personal protection device".
Sounds more like she was just letting off some tension wishing she had the guts to go over to the BP station and confront them.
Although are stories about occasions where an innocent with a weapon saves lives or property, this is not one of them. The newspaper should be faulted for headlining the article as if it were otherwise.

(12,270 posts)The moment the robbers fled the restaurant it was no longer a case of self defense. Firing a gun into the air (especially in a city) is just plain stupid. This story is just playing into the hands of gun nuts who think they'll be the next 'good guy with a gun' who can be a hero.

(16,504 posts)she could have shot patrons, other employees or herself. There is a reason they tell employees to hand over the damn money. She wasn't a perfect example of anything except NOT understanding company policy.

(8,444 posts)and no one deserves to be shot over a $200 robbery. Better to focus on getting the plate number.
If she was shooting into the air as the article states, that's dangerous.
Newspaper articles that normalize this behavior are irresponsible.
