Gov. Ron DeSantis is alleging that legalizing marijuana inevitably means police wont stop weed smokers lighting up at commercial restaurants.
Law enforcement is not going to, DeSantis said. Theyre not going to spend time policing whether its being used in a restaurant or not if its a constitutional right. Theyre just going to want to stay out of it because theyre not going to want to end up getting sued.
The Governor made the baseless allegation during a telephone town hall hosted by the Republican Party of Florida. A recording was posted by Mediaite after reporter Sarah Rumpf received a robocall that patched individuals who picked up into the conversation.
DeSantis has campaigned heavily against Amendment 3, which would decriminalize marijuana for adult recreational use. His town hall comments came after a caller identified as Julian from Miami asked if, after the amendments passage, somebody could be smoking weed while next to me sitting inside a restaurant eating dinner?

(39,836 posts)Tobacco is legal but you cant smoke it in restaurants. Let me guess, this desantis guy is a Republican making shit up. Yes, some people say, that restaurants full of patrons will be stoned by evil hippies encroaching on their conservatism. Reefer Madness in Captiva.

(8,579 posts)that he does for guns. If you have a constitutional right, you can do it anywhere (carry guns anywhere, smoke pot anywhere). As far as I know restaurants don't generally need law enforcement to enforce no smoking rules, so he's just blowing smoke (no pun intended).
