If you are a convicted felon, can you vote in November's general election in Florida?
Short answer: Maybe. But you'll have to work for it.
In 2018, Florida voters approved a constitutional amendment to automatically restore voting rights to people convicted of felonies, excluding murder or felony sexual offenses, upon "completion of all terms of their sentence including parole or probation."
Previously, ex-felons could ask the Florida Clemency Board to restore their rights but they had to wait five years after completing their sentences, in a system a U.S. district judge found arbitrary and unconstitutional. In 2018, The Palm Beach Post reported that under Gov. Rick Scott, the clemency board had restored voting rights to the lowest percentage of Black felons in 50 years.
