New law shields DeSantis use of state vehicles to campaignTALLAHASSEE If it hadnt been for a fender bender on Interstate 75 near Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tuesday morning, most folks wouldnt know that Gov. Ron DeSantis was using state government vehicles for his 2024 run for president.
Tuesdays four-vehicle collision on the way to a campaign fundraiser draws a curtain back on the campaigns use of state resources. But finding out whos paying for it is nearly impossible thanks to a new law passed by the Legislature to protect the governors travel records from public view.
The legislature has enabled him to hide his travel records so we dont know and have no way to hold him accountable if he is using state resources in his campaign or if that is even the case, said Ben Wilcox, research director for Integrity Florida, a nonprofit government watchdog.
It was frustrating enough when trying to monitor his use of government resources while traveling around the state, Rep. Anna Eskamani said, but to take those people and vehicles out of state is even worse.
Its absurd that hes using public resources and public infrastructure to campaign. said Eskamani, D-Orlando. Hes using state resources to boost himself politically.

(7,080 posts)1. He can campaign any way
he wants to. He will never be president.

(19,709 posts)2. That's true but he's doing it with our tax money
And, as the article says, there is no way to know wheres hes been, wheres hes going or wheres hes at while campaigning. We know where is he when the media finds out and it on tv. His rubber stamped legislators have given him Carte Blanche on our dime
And some of those dimes were mine.

Even with these subsidies, DeathSantis is losing

DeathSadist has ONLY ever used Florida as a longstanding series of political stunts to try and boost himself into the national arena.
Glad he's massively failing, but this is despicable.
