An impossible question to answer: How many seniors and immunocompromised people in FL died ?

As I said in the subject line, it is impossible to answer. My understanding is that DeSantis disabled the Department of Health from collecting and publishing accurate statistics on all facets of COVID-19 in Florida. Maybe I understood the information wrong.

I posit this because, DeSantis is always trumpeting the "fact" that he kept Florida open, open for business, and "kept the schools open". I admit to not knowing the exact truths about all this.

However, I do know that the country of Sweden adopted a similar policy at the beginning of the pandemic, only to put in some restrictions for public health later. Their death rate per 100,000 was among the highest in Europe.

It seems to me that DeSantis' policy sacrificed seniors and the immunocompromised in favor of "openness". I wish we knew good stats about those two populations.

What we'd have to do is look at "excess death" statistics, because many covid victims, not just in FL, had other causes on the death certificate.

We may have lost 2 million. We can be sure that covid deaths were undercounted.

There are a lot of ways a dishonest regime can frustrate fact-finding. After all, the Texas lt gov openly stated that grandma and grandpa shuld be willing to sacrifice their lives for "the economy". Really.

DeSantis had private vax giveaways for wealthy people in pop-up vax clinics, with the hoi-polloi kept out by law enforcement. Private protection, public disparagement.

5. They have to look at the "excess deaths" compared to other years.

Then they extrapolate from there. Even in states TRYING to keep good records, there were so many unreported as Covid because it had never been diagnosed, they died alone at home, diagnosed "natural causes," Covid was undercounted. I had Covid before there was any widespread testing. You had to have somebody drive you to those outdoor testing sites so I didn't want to expose my loved ones to that in an enclosed car. But I had the high fever, severe headache, body pains. I'm one of millions of cases who had it but am not in the statistics because I never had a positive test.

6. COVID and accidents were 3 & 4

If you include things like heart attack while positive then COVID was #3, otherwise nearly tied w accidents. Over 200K covid deaths in 2022 wirh 50K more something plus covid. We will see better by the next elections. For every death there were several more seriously hurt. #s I saw were 3 GOP to every 1D in the death group. Even if that is only 50%.
