In recent weeks, DeSantis has widened his war on the First Amendment. Hes spoken of his desire to weaken libel laws, which would make it easier to sue media organizations for defamation. This direct assault on the freedom of the press was picked up by at least one Florida legislator, who introduced legislation last week that would require bloggers who write about the state government and its leaders to register with the state.
When not violating bedrock constitutional principles, DeSantis and his Republican cronies are force-feeding Floridas students their take on American history. While DeSantis claims that hes trying to stop woke indoctrination in the Sunshine State, he is seeking to warp their minds with his own form of indoctrination. ,,,,,
DeSantis moves are a transparently cynical ploy to win over Republican voters who enjoy nothing more than angering liberals with culture war divisiveness. But that doesnt make it any less deplorable (and what else can one say of voters who take such pleasure in legislation purposely aimed at enraging, enflaming and endangering their political opponents).

(3,823 posts)On one of the trips to Miami we rented a car and went down the keys for 5 days. This was in the late 90's or early 2000's. We spent a small fortune (for us) and loved the southern florida area and especially the Keys.
We are retired now, and although not rich, we're comfortable. Both of us would love to go back to Florida and drive down the Keys again in our RV (full time RV'ers). 1 month in Florida would probably cost us between $5000-$9000 between campground fees, fuel, dining out and all you do to enjoy that area.
We will NEVER go back to Florida (or Texas) until the people pull their shit covered heads out of their asses and get rid of these nazi repuqs.
I still have a hard time believing that so called intelligent "senior citizens" will vote for this amazing pile of dung, DeSantis. Do they not realize he wants to take away their benefits and entitlements? Are they really that fucking stupid?
I guess they are, the voted for him twice.

On May 10, as reported by Deadline, Iger spoke out against DeSantis and the states recent legal moves against Disney, claiming that the company was the largest taxpayer in Central Florida after paying over $1.1 billion dollars in state and local taxes in 2022. Theres a false narrative that weve been fighting to protect tax breaks as part of this, Iger claimed.
This is about one thing and one thing only, and thats retaliating against us for taking a position about pending legislation, Iger said, and then commented on his companys (tepid) disapproval of Floridas horrible Dont Say Gay Bill. We believe that in us taking that position, were merely exercising our right to free speech. He then asked rhetorically, Does [Florida and DeSantis] want us to invest more, employ more, and pay more taxes or not?
