Curtis Reeves trial: It's true, jurors hear, 'Man killed over popcorn toss'

Today, attorneys deliver closing arguments before the Pasco movie theater shooting case goes to the six-member jury for deliberation.

Attorneys for the prosecution and defense make their closing arguments today at the trial of retired Tampa police captain Curtis Reeves, charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting a man eight years ago during a confrontation inside a Wesley Chapel movie theater.

Then, during its third week, the case goes to a six-member jury for a verdict.

Reeves, 71 at the time, is arguing he fired in self-defense, saying he feared harm from fellow movie-goer Chad Oulson, 43, in part because Reeves’ health was deteriorating with age. Prosecutors countered the claim with testimony that Reeves had gone hunting in the days before the fatal shooting.

The confrontation began when Reeves noticed Oulson texting during the movie previews and told him to stop. The two argued and Reeves left to complain to a manager. He returned and informed Oulson what he had done. Oulson grabbed Reeves’ popcorn and threw it in his face and Reeves pulled the handgun and fired. The defense has raised questions about whether Oulson also threw his cell phone at Reeves.

Still just sick over this verdict. Dreampuff Feb 2022 #4
Well, in Florida, throwing popcorn or a cell phone is grounds to kill a man. Chainfire Feb 2022 #2

such as a movie theater? Or was Reeves permitted as a retired police captain?

I don't truly understand the law with concealed permits. They did have a sign in the theater saying no guns or weapons beyond this point so legally he should not really have had it in there. That was never brought out during the trial because they figured it could trigger an appeal and I don't understand why.

There were also other victims that he had previously bullied while in that theater and I don't understand why they weren't able to testify. He was allowed to call the victim of monster and make it like he was a violent aggressor and yet, prosecution wasn't allowed to show what Reeves really is. All there was was bragging about his years of service to the people. 😫

Just keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. A dirty look is also grounds for a justified shooting. "Yes, your honor, I had to stand my ground, he stuck out his tongue out at me and I felt threatened. " Y'all just come on down to dizzy world and spend your money to support the good Florida Republicans. Chances are you won't get shot.
