Florida woman charged with murder after allegedly stabbing husband 140 times

A Florida woman has been charged with first-degree murder after police say she allegedly stabbed her husband more than 140 times.

Joan Burke, 61, who is being held without bond, appeared before a Palm Beach County judge on Sunday via video conference, according to court documents obtained by CNN affiliate WPTV.

CNN has reached out to Burke’s attorney for comment.

In an incident report, officers with Palm Springs Police said they responded to Burke’s home on the evening of February 11 after receiving a call from a man who identified himself as the son of the suspect.

Just seems really dramatic to go 140 stabs.

Nobody but the couple really knows what goes on inside of a marriage, which is the way it should be. But when the emergency personnel is called out, it becomes our business whether we want it or not.

5. 140 times?!

Here's an experiment. Take a steak knife and a piece of meat. Time yourself stabbing the meat 140 times. Be sure to plunge the knife at least 2 inches into the meat.

It will take you two minutes or more to stab the meat that many times. That's a long time. Since it was probably a fight, it probably took even longer. Scary.

This woman was totally lost in her rage. When the police took her into custody, she was alert but unresponsive. Something pushed her over the edge. I'm certainly not excusing her murderous act but it will be enlightening to learn what precipitated her actions.
