Florida Republicans close voter registration gap with Democrats

MIAMI — The gap between Florida’s registered Democrats and Republicans, which has been steadily closing nearly every year since 2012, is a few thousand voters away from the GOP pulling ahead for the first time in state history.

Despite two decades of Republican dominance on a statewide level, Democrats in Florida have managed to maintain their edge in the number of registered voters. But that lead is now down to about 24,000, according to data from the Florida Department of State — far from the 558,000-voter-advantage Democrats had nearly a decade ago.

There are about 5.1 million Republicans and just slightly more Democrats listed in state data showing active voters as of Aug. 31. There are about 3.8 million voters registered without party affiliation and about 250,000 who registered with minor parties.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz said that, despite the narrowed gap, he’s feeling good. Part of what motivated him to run the party was the lack of infrastructure Democrats had, he said. Since he’s taken over, the party’s been making an active effort to set up a statewide voter registration system that operates year-round.

I hear you.

I'm old enough to remember when that was. I wish you could get a decent governor in there now, instead of having that tetras-block built, insane, right-winged, covid-19-murdering, non-vaccinated police hiring maniac DeathSentence in there, who more than likely cheated to win the governorship. Out here in California, the GQP US Taliban Party had the nerve to try to recall Gavin Newsom for NOTHING. In fact, right after he won the governorship the 1st time, they GQP was speaking about recalling him, and he'd not even occupied the governor's mansion yet Dems better stop that shit NOW so that no other Dem governor can be recalled just because the GQP has no policy and can't win here in California, instead of waiting until the last minute try to do something when another Dem. governor gets recalled which is what they usually do out here

social media or websites and making a donation. Anna is the real deal and she might be able to save this party with the right resources. She has a true ground game. She is organized. She has people of all ages from high school and college to senior citizens volunteering on a daily basis for her. She has a true statewide following and she canvasses her voters everywhere in her district and outside. At the very least follow her social media and People Power.
