Dozens of reproductive rights marches slated across Florida

In nearly 50 cities across Florida, waves of pro-choice supporters are gearing up to march Saturday to rally for reproductive rights in the Sunshine State.

The demonstrations are in conjunction with national Women's March Day, and pro-choice advocates in Bradenton, Naples, Key West, Lakeland, Orlando, Gainesville, Ft. Lauderdale, St. Petersburg, and dozens of other cities are marching for reproductive freedom, organizers say.

With the marches happening just days prior to the Supreme Court's return to session Oct. 4., advocates hope the pressure will steer legislators to uphold reproductive healthcare in Florida.

State lawmakers have proposed a bill this year to restrict abortions and several local governments have discussed the idea of ordinances, including Manatee County and the city of Naples.
