Brian Mast (CD 18, Florida) threw a temper tantrum before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Monday, exploiting recently deceased service members, rather than providing actual evidence, to promote a Republican lie. Mast's most recent previous venture into the national spotlight was when he cried about having to wear a mask in the House after he was vaccinated.

(8,209 posts)Mast's district is just north of Mar-a-Lago. He was able to get on Air Force One a couple times and used the opportunity to send out look-at-me tweets.

(4,195 posts)Why arent they made to substantiate their bull schmidt claims? If they cant back up their lies (or BS) they should not be given the opportunity to speak. Or, if they continue, their remarks should be cause for sanction.

(8,209 posts)Part of the problem is the sheer volume of lies. By itself, any single instance becomes trivial. I can't imagine our democracy surviving when too many people view lies as acceptable political discourse.

Ever since, we're treated to Mast's parading all over the District - always in shorts - so no one misses his his prosthetic legs.
The 18th is plagued with polluted water runoff from Lake Okeechobee (and points north) spilling into the St. Lucie river estuary. Mast, in an uncharacteristic move for an R, has seized on this problem as public pressure builds to force the Army Corp of Engineers to correct the problem (the Corp created the problem decades ago). This has endeared him to the local community on the Treasure Coast.
It was low-hanging fruit for Mast - I mean this is the biggest problem of the District, he had to get involved.
In the meantime, he's in lockstep with the Terrorist Party on everything else.

(8,209 posts)Local media and "environmental" organizations have convinced many residents that the only important environmental battle is reducing Lake O discharges. 99% of their attention has been devoted to LOSOM for the last 2 years. Talk about growth management, actually enforcing BMAP limits, or global warming and the yawning begins in earnest.
Mast only talks about discharges and LOSOM. He talks about the VA sometimes, partly because he has an obvious personal stake, and partly to make it look like he's working on something besides local water issues. He also likes to bring dogs into his media pitch- because it works and, I suspect, because the mind-numbing triviality is a public display of his contempt for his supporters. He feels free to toe the Trump party line in all other matters.
