As her surname seems to suggest, Laura Loomer has been looming over South Florida like an ominous shadow.

The anti-Muslim extremist with a penchant for throwing the white power "OK" hand sign has been a persistent purveyor of conspiracy theories and anti-immigrant rhetoric, and now she's made national headlines and baffled even GOP members by winning the Republican primary for Florida's 21st Congressional District, which includes Palm Beach County.

Loomer, the self-proclaimed most banned woman on the internet, has been barred from various social-media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and was also banned from using the rideshare services Uber and Lyft after some particularly racist comments. Good thing she didn't need a ride to first place in the primary.

So what exactly has Loomer done to get herself banned from every major platform, and what should Florida voters know going into November's general election, in which she’ll face Democratic incumbent Rep. Lois Frankel? New Times has compiled this list of Loomer controversies, from theatrical sabotage to racist protests.

2. She's not running because she has any interest AT ALL in governing. She's running to

try to use the loopholes/double-standards which Twitter/FB have created for political figures to try to bully them into letting her back on those platforms. We've seen numerous examples of social media accounts which exactly repost what a politician posts and the regular person gets suspended or deleted, not the politician. She's trying to exploit that basic unfairness.

As well as the general improvement in visibility when one runs for office, even in a tilting at windmills, going down in flames kind of way.

Her whole "thing" is being a right wing bigot who is persecuted for being a right wing bigot, so give her money so she can fight the powers that be. But in her desperation for enough continually new attention to keep that grift gravy train running, she overstepped and the big social media companies decided she wasn't a big enough deal to keep them from banning her. Now she's lost the major conduits she had used to get in front of people's eyeballs and thereby make a living off of being a professional jerk. So she needs a new method. Politics it is then.
