The buds have already reached “peduncle elongation” and we’ve bumped our peak bloom forecast forward by several days.

The weather in Washington has turned chilly but its cherry blossom buds — aided by unseasonably mild weather in February and early March — may be within a week or so of peak bloom.

Because the buds are so far along so soon, we need to bump our peak bloom forecast forward by several days. We now predict peak bloom will occur between March 19 and 23, instead of between March 25 and 29. Our initial forecast was based on computer model projections for more intense and enduring cold weather than we’re actually experiencing.

2. me too. And got about another 5 inches all of yesterday. We have trouble getting

into the woods to tap the maple trees. But sap not flowing well anyways--it is too cold. It will be a bad season for maple syrup this year in mid WI.

We lived in the DC area for 8 years, during my husband’s final tour of duty as an Air Force pilot. He was stationed at Andrew’s.

Seeing the cherry blossoms in person is like walking around inside a Monet painting.

4. I've only been to DC once

Many years ago on an overnight business trip, but it was cherry blossom time and it was stunning. DC is an incredibly beautiful city overall.

However, I had the worst allergies EVER while on that trip! Does DC tend to be a big allergy city?
