10 Etiquette Tips For D.C. Locals Not Trying To Get Ahead In Washington

https://dcist.com/story/23/02/17/10-etiquette-tips-for-d-c-locals-not-trying-to-get-ahead-in-washington/

1. Stand to the right on the Metro escalator!

2. It’s time to retire, “I would never cross the river for [insert person, thing, activity].”

3. D.C. isn’t just a place for fancy restaurants or business dinners.

4. When meeting someone new, avoid asking “What do you do for work?” right out the gate.

5. Limiting dogs in public spaces.

6. Trying to impress a first date? Try a fun walking tour and dinner off U Street rather than The Wharf with its prerequisite ‘waterfront tax’

2 is baffling to a daily border crosser like me. My range stretches from northern Virginia up to Baltimore. Having that wider range has helped me procure supplies during the COVID shortages. There is fun stuff to do everywhere but some folks choose to miss out.

7. Leave the metal home. Rodeo belt buckles, studded vests and similar stuff sets off magnetometers and slows you and others down.

8. Watch where you hold family conferences. These create bottle necks for others

that's sound advice. I've never even installed it or signed up. There is a lot of misinformation on there and some of it is dangerous.

as 'waterfront tax' sounds undesirable.

Apartment in SW was my first DC residence, LONG time ago, and not a big deal at all, but pleasant, and could walk from home across the Mall to work. (BEST soft-shelled crab I've EVER had!!!)

Lots of people visit for the shows, music, restaurants, bars, etc. DC Jazzfest was there last fall. It's one of the largest gentrification gaps I've ever seen between new expensive housing vs the old affordable housing.
