Based on 16th-century sources, including rare original letters and documents, this three-part series uses insights from Tudor scholars and dramatic re-enactments to bring the story to life.

The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family airs Sunday, September 4 at 7pm on WETA PBS or stream with the free PBS video app.

2. I watched the first episode.

It was kind of spotty and I thought slightly historically wrong in a couple of places.

4. Agreed. Beautifully produced but not always historically on point.

Nevertheless, for anyone not immersed in the history, its very good.

5. Yes, the bones are there.

I think that both Elizabeth Howard and Mary Boleyn were far more ambitious than they are saying. That's one of my biggest quibbles, along with the title. I don't think the Boleyns were any more 'scandalous' than any other social-climbing, power-grasping family -of which there were many at the time.

What I liked most was that graphic of the circles of influence at the Court. It was extremely well done.

You're right. Elizabeth Howard must have been most determined to recoup her social standing by doing everything in her power for her husband and daughters to succeed brilliantly at court. I'm pondering your theory about Mary. It puts a completely different slant on her behaviour. Thanks!
