D.C. police said a small child died of a gunshot wound on Chester Street, in Southeast D.C., on Wednesday afternoon.
The D.C. police said the child was found unconscious and not breathing. Police chief Robert Contee said the child appeared to be 1 year old.
The police said that the child may have been playing with a gun but could not provide any additional details during a 3:30 p.m. update. Officers also said that they didnt know if another child had gotten a hold of the gun.
Chief Contee expressed condolences for the family ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
I cant imagine what theyre going through, Contee said. Right now, on the eve of Thanksgiving, to loose a life of a small child unnecessarily. You know, somehow a gun was present and we know that this child will not see Thanksgiving tomorrow.
Police were unable to confirm the childs gender, though reporting from WTOP news partners at NBC Washington indicated that the child was male.

Who wrote this article? "To loose a life of a small child..." how could a writer and publisher make a mistake like that?

Most likely, a written statement. They'll quote him verbatim.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's a prepared statement (I'm guessing). Someone on his staff should know better, but....
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I'll be doing housework and working on the computer today.

(17,022 posts)5. I'm going to mom and dad's for lunch and we'll hang out for the day.
We'll probably pig out and then sit down and watch tv together. Then we'll eat a little more and watch some more tv. When they start falling asleep, I'll come on back home and be with the cat and probably take a nap myself. Hope your day is pleasant, mahatma! Be good to yourself today!
