D.C. posts second-warmest October on record.

Multiple days with highs in the 80s slowed autumn’s progression; Dulles registered its warmest October.

If you thought October was more like September, you weren’t that far off. With eight days at or above 80 degrees, Washington experienced its warmest October in 14 years and second warmest in more than 140 years of records.

The average temperature of 66.3 was 5.5 degrees above the latest 30-year average. It was the biggest monthly temperature difference from normal since March 2020, which was 5.6 degrees above the norm. According to the Southeast Regional Climate Center, Washington’s October temperatures resembled typical conditions in Los Angeles.

The warm October fits into the long-term trend toward rising temperatures, driven by climate change.

I switched the heat on for the first time this season last night.

The BBB plan has stuff for lowering heating costs so I hope they pass it soon.
