from Capital Weather Gang:

It's a sorry state of affairs for snow lovers in DC as we are seeing arguably the biggest snow drought on record. It has been a record 694 days since we last saw 0.5" of snow or more on a calendar day in DC. Cities which have seen more snow than DC in the last 2 winters just since Jan 1: Austin, Tex; Jackson, Miss; Vicksburg, Miss; Oklahoma City; Waco, Tex; Shreveport, La.; Madrid, Spain.
BUT...next 4-5 weeks are historically snowiest time of year in DC when we have seen our biggest events. The pattern is not unfavorable for snow. We have seen years start off slowly like this one and still see accumulation. There is hope.

4-5 inches, snowed all day (never seen that here before, been here since '91) and stuck around in the shady parts through Tuesday. I have always loved the quiet that comes with snowfall and did not realize how much I missed that (or how really noisy it is outside all the time where I live).
