Sound the sad trombone snow lovers, we've lowered predicted totals slightly one more time.

That said, Wednesday's storm will be a mess. We have flood watches east of the city for 1-2" of rain and a winter storm warning out toward I81 for 6-12"+ snow. In the middle, a sloppy mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain.
Conditions will vary considerably over short distances. To gain a better idea of what this storm means for your location, read our detailed briefing.

*A powerful, moisture-infused coastal storm is set to charge through the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, unloading a sloppy mix of precipitation in the Washington region. Heavy snow is expected toward the Interstate 81 corridor and the mountains, heavy rain east of Interstate 95 and a combination of snow, ice and rain in between.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for northern Fauquier, western Loudoun and Frederick counties as well as locations to the northwest, where up to a foot of snow could fall. Travel will be very difficult in this area Wednesday afternoon and night.

A winter storm watch is in effect for areas just to the east, and includes Washington’s immediate west and north suburbs. In the watch zone, a sloppy mix of snow, sleet, freezing and rain is most likely with a light to moderate accumulation of frozen precipitation. Slick spots could develop, especially on untreated roads.>>>
