New Laws Address Bail Reform And Self-Driving Vehicles

While lawmakers did not pass a state budget during the 2017 regular session of the General Assembly, they did approve a host of new laws that were signed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and will take effect Saturday.

The governor has signed 135 bills that passed during the 2017 legislative session, but the legislation has various implementation dates. Some of those newly signed laws have already taken effect. A ban on the practice of using therapy to alter the sexual orientation of a minor began on May 10, the day Malloy signed the legislation.

Other high-profile proposals, such as a law that bolsters the state's hate-crimes statutes and a new set of rules for app-based ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft, won't take effect until later.
