Supreme Court issues final ruling restating Skakel conviction

GREENWICH — A routine administrative filing by the Connecticut Supreme Court, one that reinstated the murder conviction of Michael Skakel, brought renewed interest into the longtime murder case Monday, but no actual decisions was made on whether Skakel would face more jail time or a new criminal trial.

The court on Monday released a final, edited version of a decision announced in December, triggering media interest. But Skakel's request for justices to reconsider that decision remains pending.

Skakel remains free, living in Westchester County, N.Y., and his status has not changed.

“The release of the official publication was seen as something that it wasn’t,” said Stephan Seeger, a defense lawyer for Skakel. “Everyone has been anticipating a decision on the motion for reconsideration, but that’s not what it was.”
