Lamont seeks ideas for statues at capitol

Gov. Ned Lamont Sunday asked for ideas for people to be honored with statues in the state capitol in Hartford.

Statues that remain are mostly politicians and generals, he said. Only one is a woman, Gov. Ella T. Grasso.

In a tweet Sunday afternoon, Lamont suggested that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died Friday, would be an example, but really does not have any Connecticut ties.

Lamont said he was looking for diversity, and to honor “heroes that made history by sparking real change.”

He suggested Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Igor Sikorsky, inventor of the helicopter; and Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
