Ex-Westport, CT, coach accused of exposing himself gets probation
Following his arrest, police said Sharpe told them, Im heavier than I should be right now. I do drive with my jeans unbuttoned a lot because my pants dont fit me. Its entirely possible I was driving in those areas with my pants unbuttoned. Could I have been exposed? Its a big possible. Sure, all of its possible.
A former high school soccer coach accused of exposing himself in separate incidents to a Fairfield teen and a Norwalk woman was granted a special psychiatric probation program on Friday. David Sharpe, 30, of Warren Street in Fairfield, who coached girls soccer at Westports Staples High School until his arrest late last year, was granted the supervised diversionary program in the Fairfield case following a hearing before Superior Court Judge Frank Iannotti.
Under the program, Sharpe did not plead guilty to the charges pending against him of public indecency and second-degree breach of peace but was placed on two years probation. If he commits no other crimes during that probation, the charges against him will be dismissed.
On Oct. 23, 2018, police said, a 16-year-old girl was walking in the area of Old Post Road and South Benson Road in Fairfield when, she said, an older black Ford Mustang pulled over and stopped just ahead of her. Police said as the girl walked past the car, she looked in and saw a man, later identified as Sharpe, masturbating. The man looked at the girl and continued touching himself, police said.
The girl walked home and told her mother what she saw, and the mother called police. An officer later got the Mustangs license plate number, which came back to a car owned by Sharpe. On Sept. 26, 2018, a 20-year-old woman was walking in the area of Sasqua Road and Winfield Street in Norwalk when a man in a black Mustang pulled up to her, police said. The driver was masturbating as he stared at the woman, police said.
